About FoodLab
FoodLab is a startup social enterprise in South Strathfield. We back refugees, migrants, First Nations and women to start and grow food businesses. Our corporate catering arm funds the program and gives entrepreneurs hands-on experience in a real kitchen.
The role
You’ll help prepare food and run a clean, safe kitchen during corporate catering production and events. This is practical, fast-paced work with plenty of cleaning and teamwork. You’ll also support and encourage FoodLab entrepreneurs as they develop their skills.
What you’ll do
• Basic prep (weighing, chopping, assembling) and assisting cooks
• General cleaning: benches, floors, equipment; waste disposal
• Operate commercial dishwasher; keep the kitchen organised and stocked
• Follow food safety procedures; maintain equipment and storage areas
• Pitch in across kitchen operations as required; be a steady, positive presence for entrepreneurs
What you’ll bring
• 6+ months’ experience as a kitchen hand in a commercial setting
• Basic food prep and knife skills, and care for quality and detail
• Reliability, a good attitude and a genuine connection to FoodLab’s mission
• Willingness to do good work that makes a great kitchen run

Pay, availability and training
• Starting from $33 per hour (casual) plus applicable penalties and super
• At least two days per week; weekday daytime with occasional event needs; opportunities to grow, learn and develop.
• Opportunities for shifts to increase over the coming months.
