Employment Type: Casual

Hourly rates: $30.35 – $31.19/ hour (based on our Enterprise Bargaining Agreement aligned with the Restaurant Industry Award)

Where the Role fits within Sushi Jiro

As a Back of House (BOH) Team Member in Sushi Jiro, you will play a vital role in supporting kitchen operations by maintaining cleanliness, assisting with food preparation, and ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly and efficiently. You will work closely with the Head Chef, BOH Team Members and FOH Team Members to uphold our standards of food safety, hygiene and food presentation.

Back-of-House (BOH) Team Member:

Our BOH Team Members are responsible for delivering high standards of food while maintaining health and safety. Specifically, your roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Food Preparation

• Handling food preparation based on the chef’s instructions, which includes tasks such as washing, cutting and peeling.
• Preparing various types of sushi and hot food dishes.
• Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards.

Inventory and Stock-take

• Duties include maintaining kitchen hygiene, checking pantry supplies, stocking up ingredients.
• Ensuring a smooth and speedy kitchen operations.
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Head Chef or Area Manager.

Compliance & Safety:

• Adhere to food hygiene and safety standards according to DoFoodSafely and the Food Act 2006 (the Act).
• Report any OHS hazards or equipment issues to the Head Chef or Area Manager promptly.

Essential Selection Criteria:

• Positive attitude, good communication skills and willing to learn.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Good understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
• Physically fit and able to stand for long shift periods and lift moderate weights.
• Interest in building a career in the hospitality industry.
• Previous hospitality experience is great, however, not essential.
• Must have eligibility to work in Australia.
• Prior experience working in a sushi restaurant is an added advantage.

Certifications to obtain prior to employment:

• Food Safety Certificate (mandatory)
• Food Safety Supervisor certificate (if any)
• First Aid certificate (if any)
