Rottnest Island
Situated just 19 kilometres off the coast of Fremantle - and 33 kilometres from Perth - Wadjemup/Rottnest Island is so close to the mainland that it can be seen on the horizon, shimmering in the water.
Despite its appearance, Rottnest Island is not a large island. It's 11 kilometres long by 4.5 kilometres wide and 19 square kilometres in area, with its highest point just 45 metres above sea level.
A marine paradise, where visitors can explore 63 of the most stunning beaches you'll find in Western Australia. A curiosity: during the hot summer months, from December to February, the island is usually a few degrees cooler than Perth, with average temperatures hovering around 20°C. However, this means that it is warmer in winter. From June to August, the island is usually a little warmer than Perth, with an average daytime temperature of 19°C.
